Survivor’s Guide: SPN in New Orleans

Welcome to the wonderful City of New Orleans! It is my favorite place in the world. If you haven’t yet visited the city, you’ll soon understand why I love it so much. I am such a fan, in fact, that I named my firm Neutral Ground Solutions, a nod to the city’s Mardi Gras culture. This is a fun write-up on that topic in case you want to learn a little more about what makes New Orleans so unique.

I wanted to make sure that my friends are prepared to enjoy not only the food capitol of the country (world?), but also the birthplace of the cocktail. Below are a few of my favorites, some walkable from the conference and some better if you Uber or use the streetcar.

Quick Tip: If someone randomly tells you they “know where you got your shoes”, I suggest grinning politely and continuing on your way.

DON’T FORGET – It is perfectly legal to grab a drink in a “go cup” and walk around the city with it!

  • Bars, bars, and many more bars

New Orleans is the birthplace of the cocktail. The Sazerac is widely regarded to be the first cocktail ever created. It remains a local favorite to this day. The Ramos Gin Fizz and the Vieux Carre are other top notch native New Orleans cocktails.

  • Brunch and the other meals

New Orleans is best known for its food, and for very good reason. Like any city, you can find yourself sucked into a subpar tourist trap. That is guaranteed not to happen if you use this list! When in doubt, pick the fresh seafood. You can’t go wrong.

  • Lagniappe (lan-yap)

Lagniappe is one of my favorite words. Use it and you instantly become much more interesting. I understand that eating and drinking isn’t everything, so here are some things you can do between your eats and your drinks. Pack your walking shoes, it is going to be an adventure!
