  • Walk up Magazine Street

If you want to venture out of the downtown area, Magazine Street is a nice place to shop boutiques and enjoy a nice walk through the garden district and uptown. The Rum House is a nice place to find refreshments and a good landmark to begin your walk

  • Walk down Royal Street

When I visit cities, my usual plans include a self-guided walking tour. There is so much to see in the city. I recommend grabbing some champagne and taking a stroll down Royal Street in the quarter. It is full of art galleries, bars, and antique shops. Always a fun time.

  • National WWII Museum

For those inclined to learn a thing or two, The National World War II Museum is close to the conference hotel and is one of the best museums in the country. The famous Higgins boats from the D-Day invasion were made in New Orleans and Stephen Ambrose chose this location to tell that story.

  • St. Louis Cemetery No. 1

Have you ever wanted to see the tomb in which Nicholas Cage will be buried? Here’s your chance. Located next to the tomb of Marie Laveau, New Orleans’ voodoo queen, is a pyramid shaped tomb that will one day boast the remains of Nic.

A cemetery tour in New Orleans is definitely a must-do. You have to pick one somehow. Might as well go with a national treasure.

  • Jackson Square

Not far away and right by the river is one of the most recognizable landmarks in New Orleans - the St. Louis Cathedral.

Everyone has to walk over and check out the art, shops, and views in Jackson Square. Maybe even grab a beignet across the street at Cafe du Monde.
